We the lucky people

Tomorrow is my birthday; I was born quite some time ago, but I was born lucky. A few years before my birth anti-polio vaccines were introduced therefore I never suffered from polio like some children just little older than i was did (in 1964 the Italian Ministry of Health decided to build a campaign of mass vaccination, using Sabin strains, with free offer of the vaccine to all children from six months to 14 years).

I was lucky because after I was born the European Economic Community (EEC), was established, by the 1951 Treaty of Paris and 1957 with the Treaty of Rome. The EU provided me with 60 years of peace and prosperity.

And I was, and still am, lucky that I was born on the right side of the Mediterranean, where peace and prosperity are granted to me. I have no merit for being born here rather than in a country with conflicts, epidemics, and/or natural disasters, it is just mere luck.

Please donate to MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES. An international, independent medical humanitarian organisation https://www.msf.org/ that provides medical assistance to people who were not as lucky as I am, they are affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare.

Thank you.

I lived the most part of my life in Washington DC, now in Italy getting to know again my country. Plenty of surprises, for good and bad, and lots of nostalgia for DC.
