A Few Twigs in the Dead of Winter

In winter flower blooms usually cheer me up beautifully. I like to see the tulips at the local market or at the florist shop.

But the one thing that cheer me up even more is when I see the very first buds on the Forsythia. They are the first ones to bloom announcing that spring is around the corner.

I like to cut the twigs that start to shoot out, and put in vases with hot water (about 95F). In a day or two, … or more if cut too early, they bloom inside the house ancitipating that air of spring that we like so much during the first months of the year.

I call these the little joys of life.

I lived the most part of my life in Washington DC, now in Italy getting to know again my country. Plenty of surprises, for good and bad, and lots of nostalgia for DC.
