Still Time for Thanksgiving

Giving Thanks Regardless

It is difficult to celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursdays in Italy. Most people work on that day, so it is best to move it to the weekend, and so here we are.

Just a few of us. We have COVID limitations, and we can only have up to six people around our tables.

We can still walk freely; stores are open and there are plans to keep them open a little longer in view of the Christmas holidays fast approaching.

Regardless, of COVID we shall humbly give thanks for everything good, beautiful, and important that happened in our life. This year there are many reasons to be upset, frustrated, and even angry. Nevertheless there are also moments to be grateful for, moments that sometimes we do not even notice or remenber. That is why it is important to pause a moment and reflect.

I can be grateful for my family, my home, and the country where I live that garantees wellbeing and security. I can cook how much and what I like, I live in warm confort, with everything I need. While there are many that live in situations that are less than ideal. Let’s remenber that.

I am also grateful to be living in a country where I am kept safe from contagion thanks to the tireless work of medical staff and health workers.

And now I’m going to attend my turkey 🦃

I lived the most part of my life in Washington DC, now in Italy getting to know again my country. Plenty of surprises, for good and bad, and lots of nostalgia for DC.
