A Year to Remenber

This was a year that we shall all remenber.

The color theme of the Christmas decorations was blue. But the decorations were plentiful, with blue lights projected on the facades of our beautiful palazzi. Somehow Christmas looked more dismal to me and less merry.

For all the bad things that happened, there was something good too.

Christmas once was a time of cheer …and shopping. Consumerism has gone, this year was a time for Cheer only, celebrated with the immediate family, and a maximum of six people around the table.

With a lockdown in place, there were few people in the streets, limited traffic, and no stress.

On NY Eve I walked the almost deserted streets and I thought that I like it better this way.  There was no pre-holiday stress, no rush to do shopping. No need for fancy clothing this year. At the market in the morning, the conversation was about a “dinner for just the two of us…”

And I did not miss the fireworks either! I was rather happy to see a miserable year disappear without fuss.

I lived the most part of my life in Washington DC, now in Italy getting to know again my country. Plenty of surprises, for good and bad, and lots of nostalgia for DC.
